Travellers Tales
Beachport S A Febuary Get-Together It was lovely to be greeted at the Southern Ocean Tourist park by members who had drifted form one caravan club gathering to another! A representative from the tourist office came at happy hour and spoke about the town, its history and what we could look at for the week. We ended up with five vans come into our week, those of you who didn't come because of the heat, let us tell you it did get much cooler. The Bowman scenic drive was our first day's aciivity, very interesting to see the rugged shoreline and the heavier seas. Unfortunately we didn't go for a swim in the pool of Salome as it was a bit chilly. On Monday we had a look through the museum and then those that wanted to walked the street and shopped, all gathering at the deli for lunch, where two members showed no respect for those of us who were eating a pie, and recited all the nasties that go in pies!!! As a result one member will NEVER eat another pie. On Sunday we were taken to the Millicent Markets, where we all stocked up on fruit and vegies and a lunch break at the roadhouse, then on to the Tantanoola Caves and then to see the Tantanoola Tiger, viewing the Windmill farm on the way. On Wednesday our tour leaders showed us the Woakwine Cutting and the resulting irrigated farmlands, Well worth the effort of making the cutting but what a lot of stone and soil to shift, and to see the machinery still on display. The foresight of our early pioneers is to be admired and to be grateful for. We then travelled for lunch stop on the foreshore tables at Robe and tour the town. Very interesting to see all the cray boats come in but no buyer from our group. A very luxurious delicacy these days at $35 kilo. At sometime we had a free day but can't remember what we all done. Maybe that was the night we went to the hotel for tea and one lady member got accosted by an inebriated young man wishing her a Happy Birthday which it was not. Two other memebrs did a good job and came to the rescue. The thrills some women get!! Happy hours were enjoyed each night and two wedding anniversaries were celebrated. There was a BBQ on the last night and the deligate thanked all for a good week and especially thanked the tour leaders for leading the tours on different days when they were famililiar with the area they were travelling to. Photos of this Get-Together are in the photo albums. |
