Travellers Tales
Marong Get-Together Feb - March 2009 Sixteen members and two guests arrived at the Marong Caravan Village during the Get-Together and stayed for varying amounts of time due to other commitments The Get-Gether started on Friday and with Happy hour at 4:30pm with our members and guests being welcomed by the organisor with a special welcome to the new members present. Saturday started well with the weather being a nice mild low twenty degree day with few members taking advantage of the free day to attend the local markets. Later the swimming pool was well attended with quite a few members enjoying a rejuvenating soak. Happy hour was fully attended and enjoyed but one committee member was insisting that he was only imbibing in sarsaparilla packaged in a Brown Bros. Port bottle. Sunday was a free day wiht a Club dinner at the local hotel which was enjoyed by all. Monday was a considerably warmer day with four members and two guests departing the Get-Together due to other commitments. The remaining ten members enjoyed a couple of hours at the Bendigo Pottery which was quite interesting. After the self conducted tour we all went our seperate ways to do some shopping in Bendigo Central. With one of our members telling us how much they enjoyed the exhibition of Hoite Culture at the Bendig Art Gallery. At Happy hour the psrk management briefed us on any evacuation procedures that may have to be taken if the fire situation became critical. Tuesday was a free day and most of the remaining members decided to stay in the park in case of any problems with the wind and fire situation being as it was. Thank goodness nothing happened and apart from eating dust happy hour was spent talking about what could have happened in between refreshments. Later that evening it was extremely windy and dusty so everyone retired to their van. Wednesday saw two more members leave declaring that they will be definitely be attending more of the State Get-Togethers in future. Afternoon tea was supplied by the park management with home cooked scones with jam and cream as a thank you to us for staying at their park. Thursday two more members leave and two others arrive. Four members went on the talking tram tour and the surface Gold Mine tour whilst two others visited friends. The BBQ was cooked that evening and preparations to leave the next day ware started. The Get-Together finished on Friday morning with everyone saying they had a good time |
