Travellers Tales
NSW Southern Region Report NSW Southern Region Report Milton Showground Get-Together 2 April to 9 April 2008 31 Club members enjoyed a wonderful week of friendship and activities at the Milton Showground. Everyone was happy with the $14 per van per night camping fee and $5 rally fee per person. The rally fee was used for a delicious camp oven community dinner that was held in the Foyer of the Basket Ball courts pavilion - a big thank you to the cooks and assistants for organising and cooking the meal. We were given keys to the Basket Ball and Bar Pavilions by the Milton Showground Management Committee for our use free of charge when not in use by others. Besides the dinner we used the foyer of the basket ball pavilion for indoor disc bowls competitions at night and one wet day. We had use of two bathroom facilities, the basket ball court change rooms upstairs which were cleaned regularly and a public facility downstairs which was kept beautifully clean by our own volunteers and thanks to our treasurer we had new shower curtains installed. The bar pavilion adjacent to our camping site was equipped with barbeque, refrigerator, hot water urn and tables and chairs. We used this area for meetings, morning tea, meals, barbeque, happy hour, crazy whist and card bingo. The local Croquet Club which is next door to the showground welcomed us to a morning game at a cost of $2 per person. Their instructors were very patient and soon we were thoroughly engrossed in plotting ways to prevent our opponents' balls going through the hoops before our own. Everyone had 2 games and a very enjoyable morning was had by all. The South Coast and Milton/Ulladulla area did not disappoint - there was much to see and do. We visited Mogo Zoo where we especially enjoyed watching the white lion cubs at play and the feeding of the Meerkats and lone Bengal tiger. On the way there, with the help of a local retired timber cutter, we had discovered some amazing tall trees in beautiful state forest. A few of the men played golf at Mollymook Golf Course one morning and all 31 of us had lunch of fish, chips and salad there for the princely sum of $5 a head. After lunch we walked around the Northern Ulladulla headland's "One Track for All" which had murals cut into wood giving the Aboriginal and European history of the area. On another day we were led on a tagalong through pristine bushland to Shallow Crossing where the river flowed over the road to a depth of a metre. One driver gave us a spectacular show by driving across at high speed, the water spraying outwards and over the top of the car lead to some good photo shots. We travelled along the dirt windy track beside the Clyde River to the little town of Nelligen where we had lunch at the pub in the beer garden. The new NSW Delegate led us on another tagalong to Huskinson where we visited "The Lady Denman Museum" and the monthly markets. After a leisurely lunch at the Hussey Pub we drove home by via Hymans Beach and Sanctuary Point. The last day of our Get-Together was spent picnicking at Lake Conjola and enjoying each other's company. In the evening we had a community barbeque and discussion on future rallies. A total of sixteen caravans and motorhomes attended the Get-Together. |
