Travellers Tales

National Get-Together in Stanthorpe, Queensland March, 2007

We were told that it was the friendliest town in Queensland and from our first day there we found that this was correct due to the fact that you walked down the street and every one spoke to you.

The local mayor and fellow councillors joined us for morning tea and welcomed us to their region.  Many questions were put to the the mayor and the burning one was rest areas and lack of them in Stanthorpe and why was the rest area in Dalveen, which is between Warwick and Stanthorpe, in danger of being closed when the townsfolk wanted it to stay open.  All questions were answered  to the best of their knowledge and they stressed upon us that they were caravanners themselves and understood our problems.

Most members took the chance to go on a full day bus tour of the local area and wineries and just as well the bus towed a trailer as it came back full. The day concluded at a local eating house where members could not eat all the food that was placed in front of them and this was as a result of large lunches and afternoon teas and of course a few other goodies along the way.

Instead of our usual night barbecue it was suggested that a breakfast was thought to be a better idea.   Members were asked to bring their barbecues over to the kitchen as there were no barbies on site.  These were not needed as somehow brand new barbecues appeared and were used to cook sausages, bacon, tomatoes, onions and eggs for breakfast.  Even though it was early for some, I'm sure that it was enjoyed by all.

Overall the rally was a great success and many new friendships were formed.  there were 6 first timers and also a local could not resist to join when they saw what we had to offer.
